(obviously, there are exceptions - see post below) The "problem" is that you will pay the highest price for the service plus a very large mark-up on the parts so the percieved "value" is less depending on the type of work performed. Dealers generally make 80% of their revenue on service and parts markup, and only about 10% on car sales with the remainder going to commissions and overhead. - my father used to be a comptroller for a Mitsubishi dealership - so that is their bread and butter and charge accordingly. As a side note, I have had one (only one) Nissan dealer here in Indy install a Nissan part that I supplied with no problem, although that seems to be the exception, not the rule, but if your dealership will do that, then that is one way to save some money if you are pressed for time or lack of knowledge and can't do a job yourself. Also, dealers, at least in my location, set their own mark-up and service rates so it pays to call around for quotes on jobs if you have multiple dealers in your area.
